During the process of composting micro-organisms break down organic matter and produce carbon dioxide, water, heat, and humus; a relatively stable organic end product. This end product can replace synthetic fertilizer and is very cheap to make. Compost making was never as relevant as now, with fertilizer prices sky rocketing and unaffordable for most subsistence farmers.
